A Lord of the Rings Inspired Wedding at Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge, Colorado | Clairisse + Matthew

Some wedding days run exactly according to schedule.

This was not one of those weddings.

And honestly? Those usually end up being my favorite!

Clairisse and Matthew tied the knot at Beaver Run Resort in Breckenridge, Colorado, surrounded by mountain views, their favorite people, and just enough Lord of the Rings inspiration to make every nerdy little heart happy. From the details to the people who showed up to celebrate them, the whole day felt uniquely them.

The morning started like most wedding mornings do: excitement, anticipation, laughter, and just a tiny bit of chaos. The timeline had decided it was more of a suggestion than a rule, but after photographing weddings throughout Colorado, I’ve learned that’s pretty normal. One of my favorite moments was helping the bride and her bridesmaids while Clairisse was putting on her nails just minutes before the ceremony. Photographer, professional dress fluffer, bouquet holder, emergency problem solver,  it’s all in a day’s work.

When it was finally time to begin...

guests gathered overlooking the mountains for a beautiful ceremony at Beaver Run Resort.

As a nod to their shared love of fantasy and adventure, a violinist played Lord of the Rings music during the ceremony. The themed details were woven throughout the day in a way that felt meaningful rather than over-the-top. Enough to make Tolkien fans smile without making anyone feel like they accidentally wandered into Middle-earth.

For couples planning a themed wedding in Colorado, this was such a great example of how to incorporate personal interests into a wedding day while still keeping everything elegant and timeless.

Then Colorado did what Colorado does best

Just as the ceremony wrapped up, snow started falling.

Because apparently sunshine, mountains, and wedding vows weren’t dramatic enough.

What had been a beautiful mountain afternoon suddenly turned into a snowy wonderland. It meant we had to move through family portraits and wedding party photos at record speed, but it also created one of those moments nobody could have planned and nobody will ever forget.

If you’ve ever planned a mountain wedding in Breckenridge, you know the weather can change in a matter of minutes. One of the reasons I always recommend building flexibility into your wedding timeline is because Colorado loves to keep us guessing.

With the weather moving in quickly, our portrait time was cut short. Thankfully, one of the benefits of having photography coverage throughout the day is being able to pivot when Mother Nature decides she wants creative control. Later during the reception, I snuck the newlyweds away for a few extra portraits, and those ended up being some of my favorite images from the entire gallery.

Inside, the celebration continued with heartfelt speeches, lots of laughter, and a packed dance floor. The father of the groom’s speech had more than a few people reaching for tissues, and it was impossible not to feel the love that filled the room.

The couple shared their first dance to “You and Me,” surrounded by family, friends, and members of their MMA community. Looking around the room, it was obvious how many lives they’ve touched and how many people were cheering them on.

One of my favorite moments of the reception happened right before my coverage ended. I had Clairisse and Matthew stand in the middle of the dance floor while the DJ queued up “I Wanna Dance with Somebody,” and we kicked off a photo dash.

The rules were simple:

if you wanted a photo with the bride and groom, run onto the dance floor at any point during the song and strike a pose. Family members, friends, wedding party members; everyone jumped in. Some people went for sweet and sentimental, others fully embraced the chaos, and the result was four straight minutes of laughter and some of the funniest photos from the entire wedding day.

Not only was it an absolute blast, but it was also a great way for the couple to get photos with guests they may not have otherwise had time to grab throughout the day. By the end of the song, the dance floor was packed, everyone was laughing, and it felt like the perfect way to kick off the evening’s celebration.

At the end of the day, Clairisse and Matthew’s wedding was a perfect reminder that the best wedding days aren’t the flawless ones. They’re the ones filled with real moments. The laughter when things don’t go according to plan. The happy tears. The unexpected snowstorm. The quiet moments stolen between all the chaos.

Those are the moments that matter.

As a Colorado wedding photographer, these are the kinds of wedding stories I love documenting most. Real moments, genuine emotion, and a day that reflects who a couple truly is.

Clairisse and Matthew, thank you for trusting me to tell your story. It was an absolute honor to spend the day with you both, and I wish you a lifetime of adventures together. Hopefully with a little less last-minute nail application.
